Hermès Birkin Bag Price Increase in 2025: What You Need to Know

Hermès Birkin Bag Price Increase in 2025: What You Need to Know

THE LEGACY OF THE BIRKIN BAG
When Hermès introduced the Birkin in 1984, its price was around $2,000. Fast-forward to today, it remains one of the most wanted luxury handbags in the world, adored by celebrities, collectors, and fashion enthusiasts alike. The design was born from a chance encounter between actress Jane Birkin and then-Hermès CEO Jean-Louis Dumas on a flight from Paris to London. Birkin expressed the need for a stylish yet practical bag, and soon after, the first Birkin 40 in calfbox leather was created. Featuring rolled handles, a flap top, protective clou feet, and a signature lock closure, the Birkin has stood the test of time as a true style icon. Interestingly, the original Birkin was the only one designed with a shoulder strap.

THE COST OF A BIRKIN IN 2025
Hermès has consistently increased Birkin prices since its debut, with an average annual growth rate of about 5% over the last 40 years. However, the luxury market is shifting, and many are wondering how high prices will go. Will Hermès stick to its usual 4-6% annual hikes, or are we looking at a trend of 10% yearly increases? If this continues, the classic Togo leather Birkin 30 could surpass the $20,000 mark within the next five years. A few years ago, a $12,000 leather bag seemed like the peak of luxury—but a $20,000 Birkin may soon become the norm.

BIRKIN 25 PRICES

Birkin 25 Togo Prices

The Birkin 25, the smallest size of the Birkin bag, now costs $12,100 for a Togo leather version at Hermès stores in the United States. The price stayed the same from 2019 to 2021, but it went up from $9,400 in 2016. In Europe, the Birkin 25 in Togo leather costs 8,950 Euros, up from 5,900 Euros in 2016. Even though the price increase in Euros is smaller than in USD, it is still cheaper to buy a Birkin 25 in Europe than in the United States. While some brands try to keep prices the same around the world, Hermès does not do this.

In 2025, the price of the Birkin 30 in Togo leather went up by 6% at Hermès boutiques in the U.S., reaching $13,300. While this increase is smaller than the one in 2024, it still surpasses the price increase in Europe. Over there, the Birkin 30 saw a more modest 4% rise, bringing its new price to €9,800.

BIRKIN BAGS ON THE RESALE MARKET
Right now, the resale price of Hermès bags is about 2.4 times higher than the boutique price. If Hermès keeps raising their prices, pushing them to $20,000 or more, resale prices will probably go up too. But the big question is: will people still want to buy these bags enough to keep the resale prices high? Or could the prices go down in the future? Even though no other luxury brand competes with Hermès at this price, other market factors could still affect resale values.
