Chanel Serial Cards vs. Microchipp
In today’s magical edition of the Luxury Helsinki blog series, we’re thrilled to share a new chapter in the Chanel story: the microchip. Let’s uncover the magic behind this change and see how it enhances the story of Chanel’s timeless treasures.
Once upon time, In April 2021, Chanel introduced an innovative method for authenticating and tracking the lifespan of interior parts, including zip pockets of handbags and Wallets on Chain (WOC). The traditional hologram serial stickers and authentication cards were replaced with a small, rectangular metal plate embedded with an 8-digit serial code and microchip, measuring 3 cm in width.
Does the Chanel Microchip Serial Code Reveal the Year of Production?
Unlike Chanel’s previous serial number system, the new serial code no longer reveals the year of production. Leveraging blockchain technology, the Chanel microchip securely stores data that is nearly impossible to edit or alter once recorded. Only Chanel sales associates and managers at boutiques have access to proprietary machines capable of scanning the microchip to retrieve information about the bag’s country of manufacture and materials used.
Benefits of the Chanel Microchip:
Authentication cards and serial numbers can be easily forged, faked, or worn out over time, which often causes genuine bags to lose value in the resale market. The Chanel microchip offers a more secure solution, as bags and WOCs are digitally embedded with this technology. This eliminates concerns about misplacing or damaging physical authentication proofs.
